About the Award
This award is named in memory of Chris Coulson, a founding member of NC3C who helped establish the organization in 2007. Chris embodied passion, leadership, and service in government communications, and this award celebrates members who follow her example.

- Reviewed by the NC3C Board and Past Presidents
Eligibility
- 10+ years of government communications experience, or a combination of communications experience with demonstrated lasting impact in the field
- Must be a current NC3C member employed in local government communications
- A member is only eligible to receive this award once

The Communicator of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding professional in government communications who has demonstrated exceptional skill, creativity, and impact over the past year.
This award honors an individual who has made significant contributions to advancing engagement, transparency, and trust in their community through innovative strategies and exemplary work.

- Nominees must be employed as a local government communicator in North Carolina and be a member of NC3C
- Self-nominations are accepted
- Nominations are reviewed by the current NC3C Board of Directors and Past Presidents
